Bidra med feedbackStaying in Cortes itself this year meant we could walk to the local restaurants. We did intend to try out La Puerta de Atras, but it was unavoidably closed, so we returned to Meson los Monteros. As we found last year, the menu del dia was remarkable value: a large plate of olives, a beer, 3 courses plus bread all for 8 euros. Even when we had an extra drink plus coffee afterwards, the bill for 2 of us was still only 20 euros. We were so satisfied with both the food and the cost that we ended up eating here 3 times during the week. Service from the young barman waiter was both very helpful and friendly. Over our three visits we sampled quite a wide variety of Spanish food, enjoying it all, but particular mention has to be made of the veal steak my wife had on our final visit: it was so enormous I had to help her to finish it! We also enjoyed the desserts which seemed to be home made. As we found last year, the start time for the menu del dia can be a little variable anywhere between 13.30 and 14.00 but that didn't matter to us: if there was a delay we just had an extra drink and enjoyed the view from the rear terrace.
This is a Fantastic food place. There is a nice staff working there. And it is a lovely place into a charming town
We ate here on a Friday night. Although the opening times say 8pm to 11pm this wasn't quite true. We arrived at 8 to be told the kitchen wasn't open. It was about 45 minutes until we were shown to the restaurant area from the bar as the kitchen had at last opened. We were unable to order various things from the menu which was disappointing. We ordered steaks which were delicious and cooked perfectly as requested. The restaurant was clean and staff were friendly. We were the only two eating there until another family arrived shortly after 10pm. We paid just under 40€ for our mains and drinks.
Not very good on a night in January . Well below our expectations. Recommended by friends . The restaurant we wanted to visit was closed.. The starter platter of sausage and ham was very chewy, cheese ok. Main courses were acceptable but nothing special . No veg . Whould not visit again
Right at the bottom end of Cortes is a large tavern/eatery or Mesón. We tried 4 or 5 Tapas and cool cañas to finish off the evening. Remember that in Spain everyone dines out after 10pm which takes getting used to. In all cities, you will see families enjoying a meal or drinks outside in the warm night air. Even young children are part of the occasion. So different and you just don 't see drunkenness or louts. Rarely do you see anyone eating or drinking alone, always social participation.
