Bidra med feedbackWe visited here recently for lunch. We sat in the garden which was very pleasant with a shade. I ordered a prawn ciabatta, salad chips which at £10.00 was good value. My friend ordered a well done steak ciabatta. However, when she started to cut it, it was apparent that it was rare inside, also it was chewy. When asked by a waitress if we were happy she showed here the steak. Her reply was ‘ I did ask for it well done’ walked off. Later on paying we were asked again about our meals by another waitress I explained about my friends meal once again . Her reply was ‘ well he is only an apprentice’ At no time was a replacement offered or any deduction in price , so I paid up fully even stupidly including a tip . Disappointed, especially so as my friend had recommended this place originally.
We asked if we could have plain prawns on a mixed salad as one of us cannot have any oils or dressing containing oil. We also asked if the steak could be grilled so that again no oils or fats were used to cook the steak. We were initially told there would not be a problem with the prawn starter, that proved not true. We were also told the kitchen could not cook the steak without oils or fats because the griddle was already oiled. How much effort does it take to wipe the griddle or to grill a steak. We cancelled our order and went elsewhere
Took a client for a meal at the Golden Lion. The food was stunning, along with the service! Stunning setting and will definitely go again.
Where to start. When you tell people your having your wedding reception at a pub, we got some mixed looks. But the Golden Lion in Stithians isn 't 'just a pub. ' Nestled into some beautifully kept tiered gardens, decorated with bunting and lights, and overlooking Stithians Lake, it is the perfect setting for a celebration and scenery for some incredible photos day and night. The interior has a quaint blend of cosy, cottage-esqe warmth with the fireplace and stone walls leading to a modern, fresh dinning area, well lit by the incredible panoramic view across the gardens and lake (a stunning backdrop to our bride and groom table). The food was all delicious, many of our guests saying it was the best nut roast they 'd ever had. The golden lion even have their own veg patch, taking locally sourced to another level. Emma even grew us some pumpkins herself when she found out we were struggling to find some. An incredible surprise. We stayed the week in their adjoing cottage. To say we didn 't want to leave is an understatement. Again the perfect blend of cosy cottage, but well lit (natural light), modern luxuries and a stunning fireplace for when the nights are more chilly. There is a lovely morning view from the upstairs of the sunrise over the lake. Emma and the team were fantastic both on the day and leading up to it, with Emma having to deal with all our questions, requests and changes throughtout the year. As an added bonus we had the delight of being ferried from our ceremony to reception in a 1934 BSA vintage car, owned by Dave (Emma 's husband). Dave is so lovely and you can tell he is so proud of getting this fantastic car up and running, having been passed down to him from his father. It was also great to hear the history of the car and about all the little (and not so little) bits Dave has had to do to fix the car and get it into the beautiful condition its in. Thankyou again for helping us make our day even more amazing.
So disappointed with our evening. The menu selection was poor. Portion sizes are small. The fish was under cooked and serviced with pickled coldslaw which tasted awful. The steak was cooked well but arrived cold and just placed on a bed of mixed leaves. Served with French fries and three small tomatoes £16.50? However, the staff were friendly. We have visited several times in the past but we will not be returning.
