We made a reservation for a Christmas meal on the Sunday before Christmas and chose our dishes from the menu in advance. However, when we arrived, we had to select our food again and were disappointed to learn that one of the desserts had already run out. The table was reserved for us, but the soup was served without a spoon and the bread roll was in a cellophane bag, which was a first for us. The meal was not very hot and the quality was lacking. Personally, I did not enjoy the tinned carrots and gravy with the texture of wallpaper paste. Overall, it was an experience I do not wish to repeat.
The Castle Cottage Tea Rooms in Pevensey, located under the castle walls, is a charming and traditional tea room where tea is served in delicate bone china cups, and sandwiches and cakes are elegantly presented on a cake stand. The staff are friendly and accommodating, allowing for menu adaptations so that scones and cakes can be shared between two people. The scones are warm, light, and fluffy, served with jam and whipped cream. The cakes are consistently delicious, with light sponge and a good rise. A new offering is the savory tea, featuring a cheese scone served with cream cheese and onion relish, providing a tasty alternative to a standard lunch sandwich. After a lunchtime visit, I toured the castle and returned for a traditional cream tea in the afternoon. I highly recommend this quaint tea room to anyone exploring the Pevensey area.
Very welcoming, warm atmosphere, lovely people offering cream teas and history information of the surrounding areas
Friendly, casual cafe selling drinks and basic food not a place for anything other than snacks. Prices average for this type of cafe.
