Bidra med feedbackWe had very high expectations but were very disappointed. The service was the worst I have ever experienced, often ignored by staff. We waited 90 minutes before our drinks even arrived, we only got them as we had to ask. We waited even longer for our starters, two bowls of SOUP....which should not take that long. We weren’t given any bread either despite them saying they would bring them straight down. The soup was extremely tasteless and bland, very disappointing for the length of time we had to wait for it. Our mains weren’t much better, the chicken was over cooked and burnt in parts and we had to ask for our sides. We weren’t even asked if we wanted anything else such as desert/tea or coffee. Several people had similar issues and complaints as we ate. The whole experience was uncomfortable and we would have walked out before the starters even arrived had we not been staying the night. The excuses used were put down to a wedding taking place but with a venue of this calibre they should be used to looking after a small amount of people in a dining room. We then had to walk out and ask for the bill and nobody asked if everything was ok. We felt no point in complaining as several others had and nothing was done for them. The actual rooms and greeting we received when checking in were excellent and all of the staff were very friendly outside of the dining. Our only reason for staying the night at the lodge was to see what it would be like as a possible wedding venue. The dining experience alone has made up our mind for us and we would not return.
Seafood platter at 29 euro was a little over priced as there were only two oysters and one langoustine on the plate. It also was not served with salad or bread. A side of skinny fries was an additional 4 euro. We booked our table one week in advance and while it had a nice aspect overlooking the lake, the view was continuously blocked by cars. In addition, the table was adjacent to an opening into the main hallway and there was a cold draught from the main entrance to The Lodge which was very uncomfortable.
The menu was not interesting and the food was at best ordinary. The meal was very overpriced and the best bit of the lunch was the view. In terms of food or value I would not recommend this venue
The food was not good to begin with, but add in the ridiculous upcharge for eating in the hotel and it made it that much worse.
The Lodge is a special place for an occasion, generating that good feeling factor. Attention to detail was only surpassed by the mouthwatering fresh fish I enjoyed on Thursday at Quay Bar. Staff were pleasant and very customer focused, happy to respond to our questions about Ashford Castle. Thank you EH
