We love Coburg, but we had never visited the Claymore before. We were not disappointed! The food was great, the staff were friendly and happy, and the environment was clean and welcoming. We will definitely be back! Dietary restrictions: They have vegan options and gluten free options! Kid-friendliness: There's a kids menu and several child friendly options. Nice place to have a drink, There were 4 of us and we either had the fish and chips or the Shepard's pie and we all enjoyed the food. Small meal menu selection, but lots of appetizers. Good prices so we'll likely be back. Price per person: CA$10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: Fish and Chips
We have recently moved to the area and have been trying out the local establishments. We passed this place a few times and decided to give it a try. The dining area is clean and has a nice pub-like setting. The menu is not too big and not too small, a good enough variety, and the prices are affordable. Unfortunately that’s where the good news ends. It was karaoke night, and for some reason, after setting up for karaoke, they started blasting Latino dance music. Really loud. We had to yell over the music. I ordered a burger, which came on a wet soggy bun. Both top and bottom. After trying to get some attention, I took my plate to the bar, and asked for a dry bun. I ended up with a burger on a cold bun, but it was dry. The fries are not home made, and they had a weird coating on them. Not what you expect from a pub. Service was ok. I felt bad for the 1 woman who was both bartender and server, so I am hesitant to complain. But it’s not a good sign when you have to return the hand-held payment machine to the bar yourself, because it was dropped off and not retrieved. I was really surprised to find out this place is only a year old. It felt more like a place that has seen better days. I think it’s ok if you are just stopping by for a drink. But if you want to appeal to those who want dinner in a pub, I would advise the owner to create an atmosphere reflective of an English pub, be fair to your servers and staff appropriately, and create a kitchen that serves fresh home-made food.
