Bidra med feedbackDelicious cocktails and so sad they aren't around anymore. Place was a bit cramped and could be loud at times, but the bartenders were always responsive and friendly.
Strange that I remember I left a review and now it's disappeared. First of all, I must say all the drinks here are mediocre at its best, it's either too sweet or completely bland! And the atmosphere sucks, it's loud and low class. I have been to too so many cocktail bars in NYC and I don't mind to pay $22 for a glass of good cocktail anywhere if it's good. But this one is hands down the worst with the price that I have to pay.
Short review/tips: Get here early before 6 or else you 're going to wait. Would highly recommend the Speak Low and like everyone, the Flirtibird. After hearing that this place was going to close soon, a friend of mine and I decided to go here and try a few cocktails. While one of the three was definitely a bit worse than the others, the cocktails here were excellent. We first shared two of the cocktails, the Flirtibird and the Smoke Got In Your Eyes. Flirtibird: Barley shochu Mizu No Mai, shiso, yuzu juice, agave nectar, plum salt rim Of the original two, this was definitely our favorite and I expected it going in as I 'm a big fan of shochu as well as basically everything else in this and I 've heard this is one of their more popular ones. It was just sweet enough and the plum salt rim added a nice sourness and overall it was very well-balanced. Would recommend. Smoke Got In Your Eyes- Maker 's Mark 46, Cocchi Barolo Chinato, Oloroso Sherry, Benedictine, bitters, smoke $19) As expected from the four liquors, this was very strong with a nice bitterness and we both quickly found out why there wasn 't much in there as it was quite strong. I would say that it was perhaps a little bit unbalanced but as this cocktail is basically their version of a Manhattan, I 'm not really that surprised. I think that adding either orange rind or something similar would help balance out the overly strong flavors. I decided to go with one more and I went with the Speak Low after noticing matcha and sherry. Speak Low: Bacardi Carta Blanca, Bacardi Ocho, Pedro Ximenez sherry, matcha $18) I 'm someone who 's usually not that big of a fan of rum cocktails as I find it to overpower most of them with some rare exceptions. This was definitely one of those exceptions as it was quite well balanced. The matcha cut off the sweetness before it became cloying. Highly recommended and the favorite of the three for both of us with the Flirtibird being close behind. Overall this was a very good cocktail bar. The bartenders were friendly and they gave good recommendations and I really don 't have much to complain about regarding the drinks. It 's a shame that this place is closing but I 'm hoping their new place will also work out another 30+ years. Mid 4.
I read so many great reviews about this place that I had pretty high expectations when I visited, but I still managed to be blown away. Very unique, well crafted cocktails with great service and a cozy atmosphere. You can definitely tell a lot of thought went into creating these cocktail recipes. My friends and I tried the Milestone (has milk tea in it! Haven't seen that before. and the Snow Fall and immensely enjoyed both drinks. If I had the money and time, I would sit there all night and try ALL of their cocktails they're that good! Would return to try more cocktails. I went on a Monday night around 8 PM and only had to wait about 10 minutes before getting a table. I'd recommend coming here on a weekday to beat the lines!
I love speakeasies! This is one of the most popular ones in NYC, and I'm glad I had the chance to visit with some friends on a recent trip there. Located inside and up the stairs of a Japanese restaurant, you'll want to get here early to secure seats. It gets super busy later in the night, and small groups are honestly best. You never know, though. We sat at the bar and just started order cocktails. I can't remember how many we had, and the menu keeps rotating, so who knows what was in them? They were all tasty, and I loved watching the bartenders at work... and commenting on their awesome tattoos. I've definitely tried the following, in case anyone seems them on the menu again: Flirtibird Barley shochu Mizu no Mai, shiso, yuzu juice, agave nectar, plum salt rim Night Day Glen Morangie, Cherry Heering, Mandarinetto, Cap Corse, Rouge, Leather Mona Lisa Earl grey infused Boatyard Double Gin, Lilleit, Combier, bitter Milestones Suntory Toki, Hoji Royal milk tea, pandan, grapefruit, lemon Nothing gets me like fancy sounding ingredients, especially ones used in traditional Japanese cuisine. Such a fun and classy experience that I'd take anyone to. My friends and I were on a dangerous Speakeasy hopping mission, and Angel's Share really kicked it off right. I wish I dressed up a little nicer on my night out in NYC, but I guess that just means I'll have to do it again.
