Izzy and I were visiting our extended German family last week in Saxony and to our pleasure they booked us in for a meal at the Friedenseiche. Friedenseiche literally translates to "Peace Oak"; the Oak tree is an ancient Germanic symbol and it is still the German National tree today. There are also occult pagan associations with the tree but we did not see any evidence of Wicca goings-on during our visit. Once more we were not disappointed with this restaurant. The friendly locals acknowledge you as they enter the restaurant and I think they wish you good eating by knocking on your table, but I must clarify this observed behaviour. I was far too occupied with eating my hearty Ham and Cheese Schnitzel with roast potatoes and fresh vegetables.Superb food, wonderful intimate atmosphere and the warmest people you could ever wish to meet. I remembered to take some photographs this time as well.Make a point of leaving the rather sprawling town of Chemnitz when here and drive south down the B95 a couple of clicks up the hill outside town and this village lies up a single tracked road to the left before you get to the top of the hill. It is not signposted to Berbisdorf, I think it might be Einseidel on the signpost? Regardless, Friedenseiche is worth the trip out of town and well worth a visit; remember to book as the hours seem a bit flexi and it can get maxed out..
I visited this Gasthaus with friends for a meal and a few beers. What a pleasure. The inside eating area was cosy and welcoming with friendly locals and smiling staff and the outside eating area looked perfect for warmer evenings.I ordered schnitzel and vegetables with a salad starter and was not disappointed, cooked freshly whilst we quaffed a refreshing beer or two the food was excellent. If you are ever in Chemnitz make a point of coming up the hill to the little village of Bebisdorf to eat at this superb little gem of a restaurant.
