Bidra med feedbackOne or two years ago have been here, gosh, cant remember what my experience was then. I have a few food items from the Korean business over and thought I should recheck this box. Spicy-Fish stew not many fish pieces, many mung-beans, it did the task I suspect to make me full. Bibimbap again very few pieces of meat, fried egg was a catastrophe, I am hardly an expert for Korean dishes, I think the egg should be part of the bibimbap ooze? a very large part.
I was for lunch in a very tasty restaurant. I ordered hot bibimbap with bark meat in sauce, but I hardly found bark meat in my bowl. few pieces mushroom with lots of rice. not recommended.
Had dine in for lunch, very stingy restaurant. I ordered hot bibimbap with beef in sauce, but I hardly found any beef in my bowl. Only few slices of mushroom with lot of rice. Not recommended.
The Lemon Grove arcade is a step back in time to the humble beginnings of Chatswood. The outdated multi-level retail complex has stood the test of time and food court on the bottom floor has never ceased to attract the locals. Jang Soo is one of those. You could see locals and office workers dine here regularly. Their cheap prices and staple of Korean favorites remains the core of their business. The set meals are what people come for such as the Soondubu Jjigae (Spicy Soft tofu stew) comes out pipping hot in a claypot with silken tofu and a rich red chili bean and seafood stock but on this occasion the soup was strangley thick. The flavour is usually a good indicator of anything spolied but the flavour remained true to form. Three serves of kim chi and a bowl of rice completes the meal for $12. The Jeyuk-deopbap (Spicy pork) and rice is presented nicely and also come in a set meal with three kim chi a small dish of steamed egg and rice. The sliced pork belly pieces were stir fried in a sweet and spicy Korean red chilli paste that was fragrant. However, the steamed egg was microwaved and lost ist silky and fluffy texture seperating water and egg and should not have been made or served that way. There is a good selection of kim chi for sale but they tend not to fill up the boxes completely and also a hot cabinet that sells fried squid and chicken drumsticks which is always crispy and cooked well. Quality could be a bit of a hit and miss on days but the husband and wife operation could be excused for serving decent home cooked meals at reasonable prices.
What a shocker of a place. I was having a massive craving of soondae (korean sausage) soup and there weren't many places to choose from in Chatswood as not all Korean restaurants make it. Thought it would be a safe bet at Jang Soo as I had been a number of times a year or so ago. I had never tried their meals though, and only went for the Korean "fast foods" - ddukboki (spicy rice cake), odeng etc, which weren't too bad. I ordered the soondae soup to satisfy my craving, but all it did was put me off it for a bit. It was over cooked and the soondae was falling apart. There wasn't even a lot of it. Way too salty and heavy. The spicy stir fried pork was even worse. Was too sickly sweet and they were far too stingy with the pork. Didn't have the spice let alone taste remotely like how the dish is supposed to taste. Mine didn't come with any banchan (side dishes) despite the menu saying we are supposed to get three, and when I asked they said the first meal included two servings. I didn't mind too much not getting more because they too weren't anything special (although better than the actual meal). A lady on the table next to us actually left more than half of her meal, so maybe it wasn't to her taste either. A staff did come out and ask if there was anything wrong with it though, so I guess that's something. Although the same staff did a whole lot of yelling at the kitchen, which was annoying because I could understand everything. But I'm sure it would be equally annoying even if you couldn't. Another thing was, I could hear them discussing the customers?? And whether they were Korean or not. I don't see how this should make a difference? Either way I probably won't go back, as the previous memories of the food being alright are now replaced with my most recent experience.
