Bidra med feedbackSure, Smokey Bones is a chain, but it's one of my favorites. It happens to be one of our go-to places for dinner when my significant other and I a) are lazy and don't want to drive very far and b) we are craving bbq. I have to be honest, they have an excellent loyalty program (Bones card) and coupons that bring us back too. While saving time and money helps, I quite enjoy the food. The two and three plate combos come with your choice of satisfying meats and two sides. I gravitate towards the pulled pork, brisket, and their chicken is darn good too! Eat them with sauce or not but I love the sweet/spicy sauce. The broccoli, baked potato, or fries are my go-to sides. The fire-grilled corn has a little kick to it (hence the name). I've tried the turkey burger and I seem to always come back to the bbq. The wings are also full of win! Atmosphere here is family friendly with lots of TVs for sports. While a large restaurant, they typically have plenty of servers here. Check out the beer specials too (try the Bones Brew). The Boneisms are funny sayings hung up on the wall that are cheesy but I get a kick out of them. I'll take a smile and a little laugh any day!
I have not been to the Bones in a long time. A friend and I went here after a long meeting. We sat at the bar. The bartender was on nice and on point with each and every drink. I had a peach buzz which was damn good!!! We talked and really enjoyed the laid back atmosphere. Service was great by all. My food arrived in a swift manner and my hamburger was cooked as ordered. It was juicy, meaty and plan ole good. Baked potato was not overcooked and had my ordered trimmings. Nice dinner!
We had a reservation for a friend's 50th birthday for about 20 people however they didn't mention until we got to the restaurant that they wouldn't be able to seat us all together. They sat us all at different booths in the same area so unfortunately we weren't all able to visit together. I was concerned when I walked in because the place was absolutely dead. There were two other tables in the entire place. It was 6pm on a Sunday night so I expected there to be more people than that. No one came in after us the entire time we were there. I read the reviews on yelp and that made me see potentially why it was so dead in the restaurant. I wish I could say our experience was better than expected but it really wasn't. Strike one was that they couldn't seat us together. Strike two was that they informed us once we were all finally ready to order that they were out of baked and mashed potato as well as broccoli. That's what most of us were going to order as sides so we took a moment to change our minds. The waitress was sweet and it wasn't her fault but it's pretty ridiculous that this place ran out of two of the biggest sides and didn't offer any compensation. Their excuse was they'd been busy the night before and had run out. However I highly doubt that they were that busy because the place was so abnormally dead. The food was alright. They forgot my garlic bread so I had to wait for that. They gave my friend the wrong sides so she had to ask them to bring them to her. Also the checks came back and the waitress had put the wrong meals on the wrong people's checks so they had to be re-done. Overall, a disappointment, especially for my friend's 50th birthday. I Won't be back.
I don't know, but I think we may be done with SB for a while. We've never been feverishly in love with BBQ, even if we do enjoy a good one occasionally. I just find the whole sugar trip a bit much with dosages that are more frequent. I remember famously begging for forgiveness from my fellow yelpers ahead of not giving 4R a 5 star review. Thankfully, many of them are still friends today. Well let me tell you: SB is no 4R. On the most recent visit, the half chicken was the best dish. (I've had their chicken breast before and found that satisfying as well flavorful beyond the sauce veneer. I wanted to try their brisket again, but it didn't come as part any of the combos, at least not without a surcharge! WHAAT! Well I'm sure glad I didn't go that route, and instead, went with the baby back ribs with one other meat, which DOESN"T carry a surcharge (But it's over $19 with 2 sides . While the ribs were OK (at least they WERE slow barbecued, and not boiled and then slathered with sauce , the premium carrying brisket was a MAJOR let down. Not that I'm an expert, but brisket which is not only SLICED, but very very compliantly sliced, which means they weren't at all tender, OR flavorful. What happened to this abomination pretending to be Texas BBQ brisket I do not know. And SUCH a tiny portion. I got out my kitchen scales and they weighed just north of 3 oz. (OK I didn't have my kitchen scales at the restaurant, but you catch my drift Not, a, good, value!
Wow! Autumn just blows me away every time she's my server!!! Not only is she swift and speedy but the other day she caught an onion in her hand WHILE in the middle of taking orders.. I was speechless. She juggles too.
