The Butchers Arms - Cardiff

My wife was disappointed with the Gammon Meal she ordered, as it was too salty for her to enjoy more than one bite. We felt like we paid a lot for just a simple plate of egg and chips. My fish meal was average, nothing special. The waiter seemed surprised when he collected our plates and saw the untouched Gammon. He showed it to his manager but didn't address the issue with us. We were left feeling like our feedback didn't matter. Unfortunately, this experience has led us to decide not to dine at the old butchers again. We should have made a complaint, but instead, we will choose to eat elsewhere in the future. Despite being a lovely pub, the disappointing food has resulted in us being lost customers.

Proper boozer pub, with a big selection of beers. Lots going on by way of music, quizzes etc. The food is of a solid pub standard too. If you're looking for a good pub to watch the game, have a burger and some decent beers you won't to far wrong here.

Superb Sunday lunch. The place has been done up nicely and was full of diners. Service was very efficient from friendly young staff. Starters of kofta lamb and prawn cocktail were very good, and mains of roast beef and pork could not be faulted. Desserts of bread and butter pudding and creme brulee were good too. To be recommended!

Always good for a few pints. Large draft beer selection. Landlord has recently added more real ales. Big bar area and large covered deck outside. Good for a quiet drink and excellent for sports with almost all rugby and football being shown and bar is well staffed so never a long wait. Highly recommend!

I am disappointed to write this review as we have enjoyed Sunday lunch at this restaurant several times in the past. However, our experience with the regular menu this weekend was terrible. The curry I ordered was the worst I have ever tasted. The chicken was fatty and rubbery, and I could not even be sure it was chicken. It was lukewarm, flavorless, and oddly bland despite smelling like curry. I even questioned whether I had contracted COVID-19! The chips were too soft and fluffy. Both my dining companion and I felt sick afterwards and were ill throughout the night. Another member of our group ordered a burger but only took a few bites before deciding that the meat (bacon burger) was undercooked. We are unlikely to dine at this restaurant again.
