Bidra med feedbackDecent restaurant with curry lunch specials.Service was great. The dude who took my order was polite, well spoken, and just a nice guy overall. The lunch chicken and mushroom curry was good. The heat level was exactly what I had in mind. The spices and seasonings were just under the punch I have experienced in other curries, but they were certainly present. There was a variety of veggies in the dish, but the chicken and mushrooms did seem to make the bulk of it.The rice was fluffy and readily absorbed the curry sauce. The chai tea was left unfinished after it had cooled to a drinkable temperature. As far as chai teas go, there was little to no aromatics. It tasted of black tea with a splash of milk. Perhaps there was a miscommunication, but if there wasn't, I cannot recommend the chai tea.Overall, I'd come back for another lunch, but I'd hold off on the tea.Vegetarian options: Vast array of vegetarian choices.
Found this place because I was in the area and it was highly rated. After eating there and both tasting the food and being served, it was easy to see why the ratings were high. Delicious!!!! And a great manager or owner (couldn’t tell which) who seemed to care a lot about our experience there. A rare thing in the restaurant industry these days! Will be back soon
Had the mushroom chicken curry lunch special with small dal add on. Both items were full of flavor and fresh, even though I was dining at the tail end of the luncheon period (2:30 pm). Was asked how hot on a scale of 1 to 10. I said 3 because I'm wimpy. It was perfect. Next time I might get adventurous and ask for 4. I arrived quite hungry after 3/4 of a day on foot at Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Luncheon portion size was just right, with no leftovers. Recommend.
We had a fantastic lunch at Base Cave. The Momos were excellent, of course, but we were surprised that we liked the spinach and paneer ones the best. Pan grilled calamari small plate was great. Grilled goat was very good, and the stir fry duck chili was fantastic. Everything had lots of complex spice. Level 5 was hot enough for some good burn. Level 7 was just enough to make my brow sweat, but was good with a beer.
To be clear, we got takeout. And maybe the restaurant was having an off night, but the food was just... not good. The chicken Tikka masala was in a sauce that tasted particularly sweet, the samosas were hard and we found them unpalatable, and the momos (we tried boar, chicken, and lamb) were nothing special. In contrast, the prices were quite high both for the portion received and the food quality. Many better options in the neighborhood (ok, for Indian... Nepalese not so much).
