Casa Rafael was right around the corner from our room at hotel Argantonio. The desk manager Pepe recommended it, and we were very happy with his advice. This seemed a highly distinguished, honest-run operation by someone (and someones) who took pride in their work. It’s a place where they showed the fish before cooking it, where a glass of sangria only cost 2.20, and where people inside got to gaze upon passersby in the street through a large glass window like goldfish. Our papas alinas salad was a tasty combination of potatoes, onions, and olive oil, and our green salad was fine. The local and fresh dorado fish cooked in a pan was quite tasty. While it was served with peppers, we were hoping for a bit more on the side. Not a major problem to report. Cherry Wonderdog ranks Casa Rafael among the better restaurants visited during our trip to Andalucia.
We took a chance on this place and so glad we did. Noisy lively place and we could see the chef whipping out order after order. Unable to understand the menu as was in Spanish and a lively Cuban man called Yandy gave us the translations on a phone. Nothing too much trouble. I wanted cuttlefish a la plancha but not available so showed me two squid for approval and a small fish -dorado? They appeared beautifully cooked. At last tapas as I remember them!!
Volveremos. A place you can't miss coming to if you go to Cádiz. You better book but it is worth it, a lot. Fresh fish and seafood, new oil and unbeatable service. If you can, ask for Yandy, he's the best waiter you can find here.
Comida espectacular, servicio super amable, precio increible. Para repetir sin duda!
