Bidra med feedbackMy husband and I sat down at a two top these are plastic chairs) table that was closest to the sea, nice view. The waitress approached us and did not offer any greeting whatsoever or ask us if we wanted to see a menu. Her first words were, You have to eat food if you want to sit at this table. We said, We would like to eat, could we please see the menu? We ordered 2 glasses of beer. I had seen the previous night that they had frankferters, I had wanted to order one. The waitress came back and took our order, one frankferter and one hamburger and fries, and brought the beer. The waitress came back and said they were out of frankferters. I said that was ok, I would just have the beer, but my husband still wanted his hamburger. Then the owner came out and told us that we would have to move to a table by the road, that we couldn 't sit at the table closest to the water. We said we weren 't moving, that we had ordered food. He started yelling at us in front of the other people. We cancelled our order, drank our beer and left. By the way, the table next to us of a family eating hamburgers looked very unsatisfied. I could see that there hamburgers were miniscule compared to the bun. Not a good place!
Unquestionably this resraurant has a lovely waterfront view and the staff were very friendly. However this doesn't compensate for the hiked prices which exceeded that which we would expect to pay in Australia. 13.50 euro for a main course consisting of 4 grilled scallops. 7.50 euro for an entree of 8 anchovies in vinegar. We didn't mind paying the prices our complaint is that we left hungry after ordering 3 starters and one main (shared between 2 people. Poor value for money.
We have been here for dinner and there was a calm, relaxing atmosphere. We enjoyed the view over the bay of Cadaques from a less crowded spot but with a wonderful view. Honestly, I don't share the views of the 1 star ratings of this restaurant because: 1) the service is fantastic! The waitress came a lot of times to our table, she gave us advice and was also funny, the kind of person that steals you a smile! Service was also very fast! 2) the food is nice and cheaper than the average for Cadaques. I have had tapas plus a very nice Gazpacho and lovely fried aubergines (stuffed with jamon iberico and cheese). The bread and tomatoes, though it is a very simple dish, was made with high quality ingredients! The taste was so good. We accompanied everything with a fresh beer. 3) The desserts are very good though they are not directly made by them. They said they are baked by a local producer but the taste was very good. I enjoyed my lemon cake.
This is a nice spot on the other side of the bay. It gets the sun in the morning but is in the shade by early afternoon. I would refer this side to the more Bohemian side of Cadaques. We liked the laid back feel. Two coffees cost €3.30.
