Bidra med feedbackMe and my friend went after workout, first the waiter was telling us we enter through wrong door, food was okay, noodle tasted like premade, and one waitress wearing glasses and longhair was really unprofessional, she wanted to take our plate away while we were eating(??? like twice, with poker face, we were really not not happy with her “service”, but the other girl was really passionate (short hair, always with a smile and very thoughtful for customers , over all won’t recommend.
Nice atmosphere and friendly service. The taste of the ramen was just average, nothing special. However, if you download the Zubu app for the first time you can get a free maki roll whichever it is.
ZUBU is a new-ish addition to the Greater Vancouver Area’s bustling ramen scene. Opened at the end of May 2020, the Burnaby/Metrotown location took over the space previously occupied by the LA-based JINYA ramen chain (see my earlier review of their Robson location). Focusing on ramen within a clean, “no frills” environment, ZUBU garnered a decent amount of attention from the press and food blogging community shortly after opening: Noms Magazine, Vancouver is Awesome, DailyHive, Foodology, Eatmuchlove, Food N Eats and Sherman’s Food Adventures all put in a good word . . . to varying degrees. Indeed, Vancouverites love their ramen if nothing else! We attended ZUBU partly out of convenience (proximity to Metrotown) and partly out of curiousity. Arriving just after 1:30PM, the establishment was moderately busy. We were seated near the back, adjacent to the open kitchen so we could spy all the action! The overall atmosphere at ZUBU is very reminiscent, in look and feel, of JINYA; in fact, Noms Magazine declared ZUBU “exudes a vibrant and lively atmosphere,” so I suspect minimal renovations were done during the switchover from JINYA to ZUBU. In terms of food, I ordered the Tonkotsu Kuro, which contains pork broth, thin noodle, pork chashu, kikurage, green onion, crispy garlic chips, black garlic oil and nori seaweed. Overall, I felt the dish had a good pork flavour and the garlic oil didn’t overpower the silky broth. The garlic chips were a nice addition and very much reminded me of the excellent Maruhachi Ramen. Is it the best ramen I’ve had in Metro Vancouver? No, but it’s far from the worst. I accompanied my ramen with ZUBU’s Cucumber Lemonade, which was both light and refreshing – a great contrast to the moderately rich ramen. FOOD: 4/5 SERVICE: 4/5 VALUE: 4/5 RECOMMENDATION: ZUBU struck me as being a good ramen house, but not great. The Tonkotsu Kuro was flavourful, but not incredibly full of depth in comparison to other ramen houses around town. Would I come back? Absolutely! ZUBU’s proximity to Metrotown is a big plus. Recommended! PS: If you found this review helpful in any way please consider hitting the helpful button!
Been here before sans children and they were lovely, but even better when I came with children! Last night we walked in and the gentleman seating us was so accommodating and found a table for us that would fit a highchair (I think they had to shuffle people around).Such incredible service and kid-friendly all around. Had a kid's menu, coloring paper and kid-friendly dishes and cup. I certainly don't expect restaurants to be so kid-friendly but this one definitely was. Excellent food and drinks too!Kid-friendliness: 100%!
Went for lunch and got the limited time beef bone marrow ramen. The broth was so good. Server said to try the broth first and then scoop the bone marrow into the soup and mix it up for a different flavour. I couldn’t really tell a difference. The roast beef was a little tough and hard to eat. Overall, I still enjoyed the ramen but felt it was not worth almost $30 for a bowl of ramen.Service was excellent. The restaurant had these raised tables with stool-like chairs which is interesting because there were plastic partitions between each table which made it harder for servers to put the food down or pick up the dishes as they have to reach between 2 guests.
