Bidra med feedbackWe were a bit disappointed with our Sunday lunch. The lamb shank was so tough that we had to request a steak knife to cut through it. It was drenched in a thick, unappetizing gravy. The vegetables that accompanied it were the blandest selection I've ever encountered. My daughter said her nut roast was better, and at least she received roast potatoes. The staff seemed overwhelmed, and even if we had voiced our concerns, I'm not sure how they could have responded. The servers were doing their best to attend to everyone and clean up. To top it off, the coffee was undrinkable, and we all left most of our cups untouched. Honestly, we just wanted to settle the bill and leave.
This pub has a rich history, but its future doesn’t look very promising, possibly due to a specific group of patrons and their dogs. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by an aggressive dog that proceeded to snarl at everyone entering the bar area. Since this is a fairly small bar that caters to locals and their dogs, it made for an uncomfortable experience. We have a young dog who is well-trained and socialized, but she was constantly on edge because of the large, hostile dog that was reactive whenever she moved. Our friends opted not to bring their dog due to previous encounters with this same aggressive animal. The owners merely watched the situation unfold while continuing to enjoy their drinks. My husband, who has long enjoyed visiting The Coach, now has this unfortunate experience overshadowing his fond memories. Pubs should be welcoming to everyone, not just a select few with ill-behaved dogs. Additionally, the toilets desperately need attention; “unsanitary” would be a kind description.
13 of us arrived at 6.30 and we were greeted with a surprised look even though we booked the table 2 weeks before. I was asked to pre order the food and send it through via email. I sent the email early that morning. We were handed a few menus and it soon became clear they hadn 't had our pre order. The waitress said she would go and check if they had the pre order. We then had to ask for a drink at about 6.50 when someone from the bar came over to ask what we wanted. The lady who served us made us feel like we were an inconvenience. When the drinks finally came, I still wasn 't sure whether the kitchen had received our pre order. I asked the waitress and she said Oh yea we 've got it . The food came after 7.30. It was around 7.45. We had 5 hungry children in our group and this is why we booked for 6.30 (and pre ordered). The restaurant wasn 't busy at all so we were confused why there was such a delay. One of the children knocked over her glass of water and the waitress was asked 3 times for a refill. She didn 't get one. At all. Whilst we are talking about drinks, we were not offered another drink after the first one. None of us had a drink with our meal. We asked the waitress for a drink in the end and she said I 'll get someone from the bar . By the time the lady from the bar came, we were about to ask for the bill so we didn 't bother. The food was ok but no one checked if it was and we weren 't offered any sauce. The vinegar was on the table but it had run out. We were out to remember my dad as it would have been his birthday and even though we had a lovely evening spending time with our family, the service was shocking and we wished we hadn 't tried somewhere new. Really disappointed!
Went for sunday lunch and it reflected the pubs aim of being really honest, tasty, home cooked, no frills food. Friendly staff, perhaps a little under staffed on a busy Sunday which meant that service was a little slow and I had to clean my own table as it had been re-set but not wiped clean after the previous occupants and the lack of staff meant it was quicker to do it myself,
We had a thoroughly enjoyable lunch, unhurried and in pleasant surroundings with very friendly staff. I had the gourmet burger with extra cheese and it was huge but not only that it was tasty and freshly made. Each of our party (4) had a different meals and the kitchen managed to get all four ready at the same time so they were all on the table together. Each of us commented on just how good their choice was. The only disappointment was that there was a lack of their own real ales. Having promised myself a couple of pints of Cofton Common it was disappointing to find that they only had one of their own brews on tap, the Icknield Pale Ale. I guess that on a Monday lunchtime they had not been able to restock after a busy weekend. I forced myself to have a couple though and it was a passable alternative. Ivbeen before and I'll be going again. What more can one say.
