Bidra med feedbackHigh hopes and the first disappointment in NYC customer service. Very sad. I’ve been wanting to visit this place for years. After all, it is such a legendary spot with the likes of Dave Gahan occasionally coming to grab a coffee. I had a meeting nearby and suggested going to Dante at last — to have a famous cappuccino and signature tiramisu. At first we were told that they do not serve just coffee and desserts, so as long as we’re here for appetizers and fine with sitting outdoors (in December), we’re good. Ordered steamed mussels, four cappuccinos and I asked about dessert instead of an appetizer for me (I just had a dinner so I wasn’t into having a second one). The waiter was seemingly irritated by the question and replied “It’s a restaurant, you know? We don’t serve just drinks and desserts”. Then we hardly saw him for the next hour, as if he didn’t want to have anything with us (a couple next to us left, having been treated the same way). Now let me say this: even in the most snobbish places like San Marco square in Venice (Italy) you can still get a “just” cappuccino and a dessert — provided that you’re willing to pay 50$ for that experience. No need to treat people that way if you immediately understand that they won’t give you enough tips. I tend to spend a lot in cafes and restaurants and was willing to do so in Dante — having kept this place in my bucket list for such a long time. Instead it was a bitter experience, but at least we had a glimpse of the vibrant atmosphere inside. I guess if you were lucky to be there it would feel different.
Amazing cocktails in a lovely restaurant with great food as well. Awesome staff and bartender made this my best birthday. Cheers!
We came here on a Monday evening at 6pm and it was packed! We snagged a table outside because it was surprisingly not that cold for a December evening. Try to get a reservation in advance. We grabbed a small bite and some cocktails. The drinks were excellent! Highly recommend getting the Caffee Dante coffee! It’s a seasonal drink, but it should be on their permanent menu.
My wife and I chose to have dinner at Cafe Dante for Thanksgiving this year (2023) and we couldn’t have been happier with the experience. YES, the food was wonderful but what really stood out beyond the ambience which was immaculate was the service! The staff was absolutely phenomenal and to have that level of warmth on a night when I’m sure they wanted to be home with their friends/families says a lot about this place. They allowed my wife and I to stay for a few hours while we waited to meet up with some friends and were kind throughout the entirety of our stay. This is our new “favorite place” and we cannot wait to go back!
Went for a latte at caffe Dante. Sat at the bar, Michael was incredible! Friendly, Knowledgeable, kind.
