Eric's - Bloomington

Eric's is located just north of Miller Park. I'd heard Eric's was a place to check out for some solid Mexican food, so I was surprised to find the following specials when I went there: $2.50 Budweiser pints daily& $2.50 Burger and fries. I'd definitely recommend the Mexican cuisine. I would not recommend Eric's if you're craving a burger and fries. I didn't try the Budweiser.

I REALLY like Eric's. I've dined in and used the nowtheydeliver.com site. My brother and dad got their breakfast. Dad had breakfast tacos and just loved them while my brother had more traditional American fare--which he also loved. While we were dining inside, Eric was making some beef tips and he asked us if we'd try them because he was thinking of adding them to his menu. We obliged and man oh man...fantastic. I love their chips and salsa too...and their chips are legit fried tortillas...not like a Tostitos chip. Their salsa is good, tomatoey and almost drinkable. My personal recommendation is the matador quesadilla or Eric's famous burrito. Whatever spices he uses on his chicken really work. Five stars for sure!

Eric's is in a cool neighborhood that holds a very warm place in my heart. Friends of friends own the place and are nice people. We know a few regulars as well (a fun bunch indeed), but irrespective, have come to really appreciate the variety and quality of the daily specials and when in doubt, the crispy tacos and quesadillas always rock! Portion sizes and prices are reasonable too. We recommend eating and drinking in the just-reopened bar on the other side of the kitchen. It can be dark, lively and wonderfully nefarious all at the same time. The beer selection could be better and the karaoke nights and late nights in general should be avoided, but theres no arguing the authenticity of the eats and drinks!

Dirty, tasteless, repulsive, and unethical. Ordered breakfast with my in-laws on a Monday morning. My over medium eggs were beyond done as the yoke was solid as a rock. The hash browns were mushy and flavorless. Bacon were thin slivers that seemed like it was microwaved, and my coffee was nearly cold and burnt. The service was nonexistent since our waitress was seen only twice. Once to take our order and again when the food was being served. She didn 't even bring us our check. I had to walk up to a cashier/hostess. We all agreed that it was atrocious and would never return but the icing on the cake was after we walked out the door. As we walking to our vehicle which was parked on the street kinda behind the restaurant, I was approached by a disheveled guy who asked me for a few dollars. Normally I don 't reward panhandling but this guy seemed like he very much needed it so I gave him a couple of dollar bills and whatever loose change I had from paying for my meal. Anyway, imagine my shock when the guy was about to walk into the back foot of the restaurant that I had just left. I immediately stopped him and asked him what he was doing and why he is going inside that place. He told me that he was homeless at the moment and the owners of the restaurant approached him a couple days prior on the sidewalk. He said he was offered money for cooking and cleaning in the kitchen and we would be paid in cash daily. Seriously?!? I replied. Not only that, he also told us that he hasn 't been paid what he was promised and that the day before, after a full ten hour shift, he was given only thirty dollars. That 's only three dollars an hour! No wonder he 's panhandling behind the building on his break. I 've was truly disgusted and disappointed by the ethics of the owners of this place. Never again will I step foot near the vicinity of that place. Beware...

I really wanted to like and support this place a family owned restaurant in a part of town that doesn 't have a lot of dining options but it was a real disappointment. I hope for their sake that they were just having an off day, or they will never survive in a town that has other options for good Mexican food. First off, the sticky menus and thick plastic table covers are kind of gross and do not provide a very inviting welcome to the restaurant we almost walked out without ordering. A friendly waitress came right away to take our order, so we decided to stay. Unfortunately, the food itself was a real disappointment. The tortilla chips which were made from flour tortillas rather than the typical corn tortillas were incredibly greasy and fried to a tasteless crisp. The salsa was ok, but a little thin and watery. Note: The chips and salsa are not included in the price of the meal, as is typical of Mexican restaurants in this town, so we actually paid for these nearly inedible appetizers . The meal itself wasn 't much better. I had the steak chimichanga; my husband had the chorizo chimichanga. The chimis themselves weren 't bad, but the rice and beans were bland and the chimis were smothered in a thick gelatinous cheese sauce that sat unmelted on top of the chimis, along with a tiny amount of lettuce and tomato and some other, unmelted, shredded cheese. I took my leftovers home and reheated them for lunch the next day they actually weren 't bad once the cheese sauce melted. I added some salsa and sour cream at home to give it a little more flavor. I am sorry to say that I won 't be in any hurry to eat here again.
