I came to the Himalayan Curry Cafe for the first time this past weekend with some friends and ordered the pork fried noodles. We all got our food within 10 minutes or less and the staff were super nice to us. We all sat at our table with our food very quickly although the restaurant is configured in a weird way. It looks like any other small sit-down restaurant but you actually order your food up-front and then wait for it to be given to you in a tray before heading to your seat. They also give you your food in styrofoam containers which I am not a huge fan of. It does make it easy to take leftovers home but it seems wasteful because you throw away the container either way. The hosts were very nice however and the prices were more than acceptable. My plate was approximately eight dollars and included a hefty portion of fried noodles along with vegetables and a good mix of pork. I really enjoyed the inclusion of peas in the dish which I think are a super underrated vegetable. The noodles were cooked to perfection and the whole meal was the right amount of juicy. It was almost like it was covered in a sauce which was a mixture of pork juices, oil, and something else I couldn’t identify. It was very good and had a great consistency that allowed it to cling on to the noodles and veggies without it turning into too much of a sloppy mess. The overall atmosphere in the restaurant was alright. It was mostly empty when we went but it was still a nice environment with soft music in the background. My worst experience in the restaurant came not from the food but actually from the bathroom. There was an unidentifiable puddle of what I hope was spilled food (It probably wasn’t) and it was just overall not well cleaned or maintained. It felt really gross and I made sure to get out of there as fast as possible. It just really ruined my appetite to try to eat a meal after seeing all of that. The rest of the meal was really good though. The restaurant was pretty empty and quiet except for the soft background music which made for an excellent conversational atmosphere. Narrowing in on my pork fried noodle meal the pork was cooked perfectly and had a soft texture to it that I really enjoyed. It was also seasoned perfectly in a way that complimented the hot sauce it was surrounded in. On that note I am actually not a big fan of spicy food but this was the perfect level of hotness to give it a nice kick while not overpowering the taste of the rest of the meal. The vegetables were also cooked really well and came out super soft. The noodles were my favorite part of the meal by far. They were soft and tasty in a way that merged perfectly when mixed with the vegetable/pork mix. Noodles are some of my favorite foods so I knew I was going to enjoy it even before I ordered. The portions were very large and I even took a good chunk of it home to enjoy another day. I don’t know if it was just me not eating a lot or what but the leftovers lasted me another whole meal that I ate with some bread plus a night-time snack for my girlfriend when she got hungry at my apartment. She also gave a raving review about the food as she enjoyed it very much although it was a bit spicy for her taste and it took her a while for her to finish it. Other than that thought I give this restaurant a four out of five stars for great portions, service, and prices but a deduction for bathroom cleanliness.
The prices are great and the staff are nice. The food was pretty mediocre, but maybe it just isn't for me.
Really good, spicy food. The chili chicken is top tier. The pho and momos are great too.
Thenthuk was delicious. It feels almost similar to Korean sujebi, perhaps because the dough is removed by hand. The portion size is very large, but it feels a bit salty, so I recommend ordering less salty. It's nice to have spicy Dadaegi, but you need to adjust the spiciness by adding it little by little. I've tried both beef and pork thenthuk, but if you want a cleaner taste, I recommend beef, and if you want softer meat, I recommend pork.I also tried vegi curry and chicken biryani. Overall, the quantity is large for the price and the taste is refreshing and light. Biryani is served with a whole chicken, but I don't like chewing on bone pieces while eating.
