Villa Howden - BLACKMANS BAY

My wife and I began our honeymoon with 2 nights at Villa Howden: a beautiful French provincial villa on a stunning water front setting. This review will cover our afternoon tea, dinner and breakfast the following morning. So let's start with freshly baked scones and our cheese platter. Yes scones bakedo especially for us! With fresh cream a d locally made raspberry jam! To die for! And the cheese platter.....nomnomnom!!! Dinner was great! A half dozen Kilpatrick oysters and half dozen natural. Sensational!!! We followed up with the eye fillet and salmon both cooked medium rare and to perfection; however, the rocket and pear salad was mediocre. The bottle of lovely pinot noir was a cracker too! We skipped dessert as we were too full! We had really high hopes for breaky as yesterday's freshly cooked bread and locally produced jam were to die for. However today they must have run out as our poached eggs with bacon and salmon (Bruny Breaky) were served with plain while bread with a side of what seemed to be cottees strawberry jam. Not overly impressed for a 5 star hotel and hatted restaurant. Have uploaded 4 photos. Will add the others later as they're on my wife's phone.

Worst risotto I've ever had over cooked, gluggy and overpowering flavour of sundried tomato didn't understand sour cream either Beautiful location hotel is lovely. Would give restaurant a miss though

High tee: not repeated. not enough food for the price. location is beautiful. the gardens stuffed and loved to go into the water. the recovery is great.

High tea: I wouldn't do it again. The portion size just doesn't justify the price. However, the location is beautiful. I enjoyed walking through the gardens and visiting the waterfront. The restoration of the area is absolutely stunning.

When we arrived at the hotel, the chef readily prepared a local produce platter for us, even though I believe the kitchen was closed at the time. My only suggestion would be to expand the wine list to include a greater variety, although this did not detract from our dining experience in any way. It’s truly disappointing to see so few positive reviews for this place, as the staff puts in tremendous effort to ensure every guest has a wonderful experience. Additionally, the menu listed on Zomato is outdated as of 2018, so I recommend contacting the restaurant or hotel directly for the most current menu options!
