Bidra med feedbackRecently ordered crab curry served with lemon rice. Taste heavenly! So happy we don't have to be always in London to get a high quality of food! _________ Delicious South Indian cuisine in Bedford. My favourite so far. Each dish tastes differently delicious. Will coming back again. Highly recommended!
Don't be put off by the unassuming exterior as inside is a culinary gem with delicious flavours of Kerala. My starter was Chicken Ulatarthiyathu lovely juicy cubes of chicken cooked in turmeric water, then stir fried with pepper powder, curry leaves and coconut slivers. The chicken was lovely and tender, there was a good amount of heat and there was the lovely taste of coconut highlighting the dish. For my main I had the Lamb Spinach Curry. The lamb was lovely and tender and plenty of it in a thick complex masala sauce with a lovely hint of cashews. The Okra masala was the best I've ever tasted and the okra still had a crunch to it. The tamarind rice was lovely and a nice change and the paratha was absolutely delicious. The wines were a very reasonable price our Chilean Merlot was only £14.95 and we were served water without having to ask. The service was excellent, the cooking was fantastic and with the recent events in Kerala you should go and show support for such a different part of India and I managed to park right outside. I cant wait to return and try more of the excellent food.
Well where do I start with my review of The Cochin Restaurant? Firstly having never dined there before we were not sure what to expect. We had only read reviews on TripAdvisor and Google which had been very complemently about the food and service so we wanted to give it a try. We had a table booked for 2 at 8.30, and we were met at the door and shown to our table by the window by a very pleasant waiter. He prompty brought over our menus, and we began to peruse through. The menu had a extensive selection of fish dishes which pleased me as I love fish, so I felt spoilt for choice as my expectations grew. The waiter was very attentive and informal and very knowledgeable about the dishes on their menu, and was happy to answer any questions we had. I finally settled on the fishermans soup for starter. Sadly this was a big let down! Very watery, no depth of flavour and next to no fish in an actual fish soup!!! My friend ordered the minty chilli prawns, the sauce which coated the prawns was tasty and zingy and the prawns cooked nicely however sadly the portion size and presentation was disappointing. Both starters seemed to arrive very quickly after ordering, which was a surprise. It seemed to me they had just been warmed through and thrown onto a plate. For my main course I ordered the mixed seafood curry which consisted of King fish, squid, prawns and mussels cooked in authentic Kerala special spice mixed sauce. The fish was cooked perfectly and the earthy Kerala special spice mixed sauce was the perfect accompaniment to the fish. Sadly the squid was over cooked and rubbery which was the only negative aspect to the dish. My friend odered the kuttanadan duck roast which consisted of slices of duck cooked in thick roast gravy sauce. The sauce had a lovely velvety rich flavour to it however the duck itself was a big let down as sadly it was tough and chewy. All in all some postives but also some negatives. If this was a school report it would probably read, 'tries hard but can do better '!!!
It is one of the finest authentic South Indian Restaurant. The food was really delicious. Especially lamb coconut fry with paratha must try combo.
Dined here with a group, and the food was good, but I have had better Indian food. This is a Southern Indian restaurant, and so many of the usual dishes you get in an Indian restaurant are missing from the menu. 'Dosa ' are the speciality here. Service and ambience were also average. Prices are quite reasonable.
