Von's Grill - Bayou La Batre

I had the Angus burger with onion rings, and both were really great. The place was bustling during lunchtime. Overall, good food!

I dined at Von's for the first time tonight with friends, and it was a wonderful experience. The ambiance of the restaurant was lovely, and the wait staff was incredibly attentive and helpful. The menu provided a great variety that caters to all tastes. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. We also had the pleasure of meeting the owner, who warmly welcomed us and checked in to make sure we were enjoying our meal. I highly recommend visiting this gem in the Bayou!

We absolutely loved it and ended up dining there for our last two nights. Everything we ordered was perfect, and our server, Jaylene, was wonderful and incredibly sweet—so much so that we joked about adopting her! On our first night, we went for some diner classics: chicken tenders, a BLT, and loaded cheese fries, along with a bowl of gumbo. Everything was fresh and delicious, especially the hearty BLT. Before leaving, we couldn't resist grabbing a lemon bar, which was absolutely delightful! On our second night, we tried their fantastic Thai cuisine, which rivaled some of the best Thai food I've had in Dallas. We even met the owner, who was genuinely nice and shared that they grow a lot of their own produce. The restaurant was clean and well-maintained, the service was top-notch, and the food was great without breaking the bank. As a bonus, we took home their bread pudding that night. It wasn't just the best I've ever tasted; it ranks among the best desserts I've ever had in my entire life! Overall, I highly recommend Von's!

Eventually, a frustrated staff member appeared at the pass-through window and called for the waitress. She finally returned, bringing a tray of food for the neighboring table along with our gumbo. It was flavorful but served lukewarm, probably because it had been sitting out too long. A few minutes later, our entrees and bread pudding arrived, but unfortunately, the bread pudding was cold. We tried to cover it with napkins to keep it warm, but it didn’t help. While the food was enjoyable, the cold dishes and lackluster service really diminished the overall experience. With only three tables occupied in the entire restaurant, there was no excuse for this. Overall, I would rate it 3.5 out of 5.
