Bidra med feedbackThis is the best place for dinner in Door County all around a really excellent meal. The server we had was super friendly and answered all of the question that our party had about food and drinks and went to check a few things with the bartender even. I had the French onion soup, which was divine, and the table shared chicken and goat cheese wontons which were crispy and rich. I ended up having the duck which was a big portion and absolutely delicious. It was done perfectly and the sauce was an excellent complement. I had a slice of paradise cake to go, and it was also just so good really nice flavors but also very light so it wasn't overwhelming after a big meal. I included a picture of the tin Celine because I just liked it so much the inside has quite a vibe but overall it's a cozy place for a nice meal
Honestly, this place is overhyped. We always come to Sister Bay with our dog, and Chives has a no pet policy (even on the patio), so we waited a long time to try it. We did finally leave our dog behind and got a chance to dine in at Chives, and we were very excited to try it. My husband ordered the duck and I ordered the beef cheek. Both were underwhelming (the beef cheek was salty and unbalanced, the noodles dry; the duck was bland in general). Fries were fantastic, though I'd come back for these. Drinks were strong and the wine selection was lacking, so not for us. The waitstaff is typical to the area friendly but new to the business. There were a couple of old hands that I think would have provided a better experience overall, but service isn't why you come here, either. To be honest, I'm not sure why it's so hard to get a reservation here. Overall it was fine, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come back.
OMG awesome dinners!! John was our Server and he truly did an amazing job! He was super attentive and didn’t let any glass go empty. My husband said the escargot were the best he’d ever had, followed by the beef cheeks which were great as well. I enjoyed baked cod which was super light and fluffy with a super tasty crust…. Highly recommended!!
Great atmosphere but the food was just OK. The pit beef was very fatty. The fries were standard and the cheese curds were average.
Had a fun visit to Chives. Passing thru town on a Thursday evening about 5 pm after having a busy day. Decided we would stop to have a little something before heading north to our destination. The staff was pumped up. We told them our intent and the response was, No problem! We sat on the corner of the bar close to the Library. Soup and salad sounded good, so wifey had chicken soup and I had the French onion. We decided to split the salad special which was epic, pear Gorgonzola medley tossed in a light vinaigrette and dressed with pickled onions and selected greens. Two opinions on the soup choices. Wifey though her soup was light on chicken. Had a hard time finding any. I, in turn, loved the French onion soup. It came super hot to the table loaded with large croutons and a large portion of Swiss/Munster cheese melted perfectly. The cheese was a meal in itself. Soup flavor was perfect, not too heavy on the onions, and very rich in flavor. We were also served warm homemade bread with great crust and a very herbaceous butter flavored with garlic, chives and rock salt. Very nice touch. The staff were great. The barmaid greeted us warmly and took our order. A couple of waiters were stationed close to our seats. We engaged in friendly conversation to whole meal. It was a really pleasant experience. We recently learned from others that the place has a good reputation, great food and friendly staff. We will return for dinner the next time we are in the area. We also heard it 's best to have a reservation. They draw a crowd.
