McCurdy's Dining Room - Baddeck

We did not have a window view, but our table was quiet and very enjoyable for a party of six to sit and chat. I had haddock and it was excellent, with lots of fresh vegies and baby potatoes. Service was excellent. Did not have dessert but would definitely eat here again.

Our choir tour group was booked into the Silver Dart Lodge for two nights on our visit to Nova Scotia/Cape Breton. This is a review of McCurdy’s Dining Room which is part of the Lodge.We had a dinner and a breakfast. Meals are served buffet style. As such, your dinner choices are varied, and the offerings similarly varied in quality – from pretty good to excellent. Dinner mains featured a seafood casserole, which was above average. Breakfast was the standard (eggs, meat, pancakes, toast, etc). Bur the sausage was particularly worth remembering.Having just come from PEI, I “overdosed” on the local mussels. They were to die for, and I kept going back for more until they ran out.The dining room is large, and there is an adjacent bar. The space can easily accommodate 2-3 busloads of people, which appears to be their primary business. Service is excellent.In sum, they do really well (both lodge and restaurant) handling large groups such as ours at the base of the Cabot Trail. And the food is a cut above for that kind of large volume business.

My husband had the salmon which was tasty, but slightly overcooked. I had the Highland Hot Pot, a vegetarian dish which was tasty and filling. Service was slow, but we enjoyed the view over the Bras d'Or Lake.

On a motorcycle trip with friends from the Washington DC area. Over 1,300 miles to get to this hotel and our first dinner in Baddeck was here. VERY impressed. We're used to pretty high end dining living in a metropolitan area and we were expecting nothing here. We were treated by a wonderful attentive staff and absolutely delish food. Well done!

We ate at five different places in Baddeck. This was far and away the best. Great service, terrific view, and super mussels. If you make a reservation, tell them you are staying at one of the other hotels, and they seat you right at the window! (They did us anyway)
