One of the best experiences I had. owner is friendly and funny! the food they get for the price is great!
Who would ever think that a small provincial aerodrome would harbour an amazing restaurant? When booking, one is asked if one will be arriving by plane or by car and, on the day of my visit, a Piper landed, taxied up to just outside the...rear entrance and out stepped two uniformed pilots for their lunch. This is principally a do it yourself buffet, with small carts generously loaded with goodies. The formula is pretty easy: the lunch menu includes wine, table water and then the following: a bowl of garbure, a traditional Gascon broth based on duck and vegetables. It tastes wonderful but don't exaggerate! Next come the hors d'oeuvre, a magical display of just about every type of starter worth eating; hams, sausages, fish, shellfish, salads of every description and you can go back for more. For mains, the choice is limited to duck breast or entrecôte steak, both cooked over a wood fire by the owner. Don't try too hard to say how you want your meat cooked as it will be done as the chef sees fit! Both dishes are accompanied by a dainty selection of hot vegetables. Now it is time to head for the offering of cheeses, where the main question is whether or not there is enough space to pack some in before heading to the calorific and bountiful dessert trolleys. Coffee is more than welcome as it helps slide one's enormous meal towards the digestive tracts. The price for this gargantuan feast is an unbelievable 13 euros all in! 26 at weekends. Not surprisingly a lunchtime booking is de rigeur as this restaurant is understandably very popular with the locals it goes some way to explaining why the official French working week is a mere 35 hours! There is no dress code but it is recommended to avoid upsetting the owner whose wrath can be severe. Decor is very basic but your attention will be focused on the contents of your plate.
