It had been a few years since we were in Zocalo, but it was as good as we remembered it to be. There were still some favorites on the menu, but also some new dishes, and they didn't disappoint. This is the only menu among many in Charlottesville that is really different and exciting. I had the duck breast cooked perfectly and accompanied by a great sauce, braised chard and an onion manchego bread pudding, and my wife loved her salmon. My starter, the tuna tartar, was too heavenly and had a healthy kick. Highly recommended!
Our family enjoyed the outdoor seating and the waiters did a great job of quickly pushing other tables in when it was raining out of the blue. We were under an umbrella and a big tree and didn't have to move and the rain stopped quickly. Our teenage kids weren't in many nice restaurants and they loved the creative starters, especially the homemade croutons on the Caesar salad, delicious! We all had very good meals and were too full for dessert, which is unfortunate because I have eaten the chocolate bread pudding with Baileys before and it is divine! There are so many tasty options and we enjoyed the scallops as well as the duck, key lime chicken and the flank. You can't go wrong!
We had a great meal with beautifully presented dishes. We sat outside on a pleasant early summer evening and started with mussels and a spinach salad with fried oysters, both of which were excellent. The pork chop and duck main courses were well prepared, with the swiss chard and bacon bits adding a nice touch to the duck. The cherry compote was a bit too strong for our taste. We tried the Bonarda red wine but ended up switching to a reliable Malbec. Our server in training did a good job, although her mentor could have been more friendly. Overall, it was a enjoyable dining experience.
Zocalo was recommended to us by a family member and we were not disappointed. The food and drinks were amazing. Everything was fresh and had a wide range of visual and palate attractions. Each of us chose a different entre and we tried each other out. The WOWs went on around the table, from yellow tomato / cucumber gazpacho, meatballs, steak, softshell crab, scallops ... delicious, delicious, delicious! All dinners came with beautiful pages that were incredible. I will definitely come again.
