Dàn Mǎ Wū Lǎo Pù Běn Diàn

The building and streetscape have a quaint charm. I visited Tanbaya, the oldest traditional Japanese sweets shop in Oita Prefecture, established in 1804, to buy Takeda's specialty sweets. Wherever you look in the shop, the atmosphere speaks of its age, which is impressive! This time, I bought the sweets "Aragi no Tsuki" and "Mikasano" and went home. There was a tea room next to the shop. Since I didn't have much time, I thought I would take my time and have lunch and tea next time. It's a place where you can stay for a long time, with a good atmosphere and a comfortable feeling.

I visited the oldest traditional Japanese confectionery shop in Oita prefecture, along with visiting Okayama Castle. Established in 1804, it was said to be a renowned shop that was highly regarded as the official confectionery supplier to Okayama Domain during the Edo period. I heard that the "Kojo no Tsuki" and "Mikasano" were noble Japanese confectioneries offered to the feudal lord during the Edo period, and became available for sale to the public during the Meiji era. The shop also has a tea room called "Sabo Dandan." Matcha and freshly baked Mikasano and Kojo no Tsuki are on the menu, allowing customers to sample before purchasing. The main store of Tamba-ya, "Kojo no Tsuki" and "Mikasano," were offered to the feudal lord. The "Kojo no Tsuki" was said to be called "Yokoshi no Tsuki" during the Edo period. There is a parking lot on the opposite side of the shop, so it is possible to visit by car. I visited by rental car, so I was concerned about parking. I was able to safely bring the sweets back to Tokyo.

I tried the chestnut wagashi and Japanese tea set. The chestnut wagashi was all really delicious. I enjoyed it so much that I even bought some steamed chestnut yokan from the store next door. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was very lovely and calming. The breeze from the Japanese-style room was very pleasant.
